New Student Orientation

As a Northeastern University student at our Seattle campus, we want you to get off to the right start! To help, we have virtual and on-campus events planned to connect you with peers, faculty, and staff.

These events are an important part of the experience and will help you to discover campus resources and information to set you up for success. We can’t wait to meet the next group of Huskies from all over the world!

Before You Start

  1. Complete your New Student Orientation Course: Check your Northeastern email and accept the invitation to enroll in this important virtual course on Northeastern’s learning platform Canvas. Please review and complete the modules and quizzes prior to your first day of class.
  2. Request your Husky Card: This is your student ID card and gives you access to campus. If you have not already done so, please submit the request now. You will receive your Husky Card when you pick up your orientation materials or we will notify you when it is available.
  3. Review the Orientation Schedule: Make sure to attend all relevant welcome days, orientation sessions, and workshops taking place over the first month of the term.

Important Information

Before you begin your program at Northeastern, please review each tab carefully and follow any instructions that apply to you. We look forward to meeting you soon on the Seattle campus.

You will find most functions and services related to your academic experience at Northeastern (e.g. course registration, your course schedule, student accounts, etc.) in the Student Hub. You can also use your myNortheastern account to access your student email account, powered by Office 365. We encourage you to check your Northeastern email regularly.

Admitted students should receive information on activating their myNortheastern account by email. If you have not received this information, or if your activation token has expired, please contact our Office of Information Technology Services.

Husky Student ID Card

All students will be required to display their Husky Student ID card while on campus. You will need your card to access campus as well as an elevator card. If you have not received your Husky Student ID card, you can submit a request for the card to be produced.

Husky Cards will be available for pick-up during the scheduled campus Orientation Week. You must present a photo ID (passport or driver’s license) upon pick-up.

The first Husky Card is issued free of charge. Replacement cards are $25.00 (USD).

It is important that you get into the habit of logging into your myNortheastern account to check your new Northeastern email inbox. Official communications from the university will always be delivered to your Northeastern email address. In addition to the Outlook platform, your Northeastern email is connected to Office 365 which provides you a whole host of powerful collaboration tools including Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and many more.

Northeastern University Student Health Plan (NUSHP)

Northeastern University’s student health plan (NUSHP), administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, provides comprehensive health benefits at an affordable rate. To learn more about NUSHP, please visit the NUSHP website. The website also contains information on how to waive NUSHP. Please note that there are strict deadlines to waive coverage.

Before diving into graduate programs, you will attend a campus student life orientation designed to equip you with the essential knowledge and resources needed to be as successful as possible at Northeastern.  During this orientation, you will be able to connect with fellow students, get your Husky card (access card),  explore support-facing services like Global Learner Support, discover ways of getting involved, as well as leadership and professional development opportunities.

Due to the size of our campus, on-campus student jobs are limited. The three main types of positions which are available to students are Administrative and event assistant (AEAs), ambassador positions, and teaching assistants (TAs)

In most cases, students must have been on the Seattle campus for at least one term before they are eligible to apply for a role. Check out the student employment page for more info or check the Student Affairs biweekly newsletter. 

To access NU Forms  

  • Step 1: Please claim your NU Student Email. Instructions on how to complete this process can be found here. This will also guide you to complete your DUO two-factor authentication setup.  
  • Step 2: Go to your Northeastern’s Microsoft 365 account and choose “Log in to Microsoft 365” pictured here or at the top right corner of the page.   
  • Step 3: Choose “myNortheastern Login” 
  • Step 5: Click on the form you need to complete

Seattle is a beautiful and vibrant urban city. Between the city’s famous skyline (check out the Space Needle), the jaw-dropping Olympic mountains looming in the background, healthy evergreen forests, and the scenic Puget Sound – it’s hard to find another American city that compares to this level of beauty.
