Career Design is an office that provides career guidance to students and alumni through various tools, resources, and strategies so they can navigate each step of their career path with confidence.  Whether the topic is finding a career that’s a good match for your values and interests, guidance on the job search, building a network, or searching for a job, Career Design is here to support you in your journey.  Below are some of the many resources and services that we offer the Northeastern community:

Coaching Labs: We host weekly virtual Coaching Labs on various career related topics, such as networking, job search, salary negotiation, etc. View the weekly coaching lab schedule to see which coaching lab is most suited to your questions and needs.  You can sign up for any of these coaching labs via NUworks, which are held via Zoom.

Canvas Modules: If you prefer something more self-guided, our Career Design Canvas Modules, which parallel our coaching labs, are available for 24/7 self-paced instruction.

Career Studio Virtual Drop-ins (Microsoft Teams): Do you have a quick question about your resume or need advice on how to get started on your job search?  Come to our daily virtual Career Studio drop-ins, where you can meet with a career advisor on our team regarding any career-related topic.  Instructions and sign up form can be found here.

The Office of Global Services is committed to being an active resource to the university’s community of international students, scholars, and their families. We provide professional expertise and support from the time of admission to beyond graduation. We advise students about F-1 student status, I-20 requests, and other related questions or concerns.

Graduate students at Northeastern are expected to secure their own accommodations. Northeastern does not own or operate any housing options at the regional campuses, nor does it promote or sponsor any individual third-party housing options. The Office of Off-Campus Housing and Support Services is dedicated to supporting students searching for off-campus housing, working with landlords, understanding leases, etc. They offer a variety of services that are useful for anyone living off campus during their graduate studies.

Northeastern University is committed to providing a living, learning and work environment that is safe and free from discrimination and harassment. The Office for University Equity and Compliance (OUEC) leads efforts to maintain the University’s compliance with all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to anti-discrimination, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Title IX. The OUEC is responsible for investigating and resolving all complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation at Northeastern. The Assistant Vice President for University Equity and Compliance / Title IX Coordinator coordinates the University’s response to complaints involving all forms of discrimination. Anyone who experiences or is aware of discriminatory conduct is urged to report the matter immediately to the OUEC for appropriate response. The University’s policies strictly prohibits retaliation against an individual for reporting perceived discrimination or participating in a resulting investigation

Helping international students, scholars and their families feel welcome at Northeastern University.

Northeastern’s Student Financial Services is committed to helping you understand and manage your finances throughout your time with Northeastern.

For a current tuition charges and fee, see here.  Please note that international students will be charged a one-time per program OGS fee of $350. Seattle students in programs eligible for NUSHP will be charged at the start of their program, and again each September (see more information below). Otherwise, students in Seattle are charged tuition each term, and are not subject to any other NU student fees.

The Graduate Ombuds Office is a confidential and impartial resource for graduate students seeking a safe space to discuss concerns that may be impacting an aspect of their University experience. This resource is available to PhD, Master’s, Certificate, and other graduate level students across all of Northeastern’s campus locations. The Graduate Ombuds Office is an informal resource that operates independently of other campus departments, and meetings are always private and off the record. Please note that while the hours of operation listed are in EST, Dr Kim Wong strives to accommodate students in different time zones or who may have work/academic oligations during regular business hours. She can generally schedule calls outside of business hours with advance notice.

Your Student Hub is an electronic gateway for the Northeastern community and offers a one-stop shop for virtual student services, including course registration and easy access to your student email account.

Students needing accommodations or services due to a disability are able to access Northeastern’s Disability Resource Center. You will find information about who the DRC serves, its staff and contact information, and other available services, including how to start the acommodation process.

Find at Northeastern offers 24/7 mental health support for all Northeastern students, regardless of health insurance policy (meaning, you do not need to be enrolled in NUSHP to access Find). All students are eligible for five free counseling sessions per term, and sessions can be held virtually and in a variety of languages. Access Find to speak with an experienced clinician, get a referral for one-to-one counseling and access to free counseling sessions, and even schedule an appointment with a local or video counselor.

The Office of Prevention and Education at Northeastern provides prevention and education services on the topics of alcohol and other drugs, sexual violence, and sexual health. OPEN seeks to provide supportive, accessible and non-judgmental services to students as well as to engage our community on wellness-related topics.

The We Care program is a support system for students during times of difficulty or challenge. We Care is a network of administrative offices, university faculty, and staff who are dedicated to helping our students address and solve problems so they can reach their full potential. Our partnership with many programs and departments across the Northeastern campus allows us to work together seamlessly to provide support services for a wide variety of challenges, from interpersonal problems and academic concerns to medical or mental health issues and personal tragedies.

The Northeastern University Student Health Plan is a commitment to the health and well-being of each of our students.  NUSHP provides affordable, comprehensive healthcare coverage anywhere, including 24/7 emergency medical care anywhere in the world.  All full-time students will be automatically enrolled in NUSHP. Eligible students may waive NUSHP via myNortheastern once the charges for NUSHP appear on their bill.

Northeastern has processes and resources to ensure that students’ grievances are treated with respect and addressed in a fair and professional manner. Both formal and informal means to resolve issues are available. Students may contact Northeastern Seattle’s Associate Dean, Paula Boyum,or reach out to Northeastern’s Graduate Ombudsperson, Kimberly Wong, for confidential support. as well as consult the university website for information on academic policies and procedures: University Registrar, Graduate Catalog/Handbook – Academic Policies & Procedures.

The Graduate Catalog contains Northeastern’s primary statements about student academic life, conduct, and the responsibilities of students and the university to one another, as authorized by the president or the Board of Trustees.

The Northeastern University Library offers an online hub of resources, as well as library staff who are available via phone 24 hours a day to assist students with access to the more than 548,806 e-books and 83,511 electronic journals available. Silicon Valley students have their own library home page with contacts and resources available here. San Francisco students can also access their library page with contacts and resources available here.

• Kanopy: Free movies, documentaries, and more with your Northeastern credentials! Over 30000 Documentaries, Classic and Indie Films.
• O’Reilly for Higher Education: O’Reilly includes more than 35,000 book titles from industry-leading publishers such as Sam’s, O’Reilly, Peachpit, and Que plus 30,000 hours of video, proven learning paths, case studies, interactive tutorials, audio books, and videos from O’Reilly’s global conferences.
• PitchBook: PitchBook delivers data and research covering private capital markets, including venture capital, private equity and M&A transactions. Use PitchBook to establish benchmarks, find real time data on deals, identify and analyze comparables, and search investor details. This resource requires separate registration with a Northeastern or NCH email address as well as IP authentication via EZproxy.
• Policy Commons: The world’s largest database for public policy, with more than 3 million reports, working papers, policy briefs, data sources, and media drawn from a directory of more than 21,000 IGOs, NGOs, think tanks, and research centers.
• Research Data Services: The expertise and tools to support you throughout the lifecycle of your research, provided by Northeastern Library. No matter where you are in the research process, or where you’re located in the world, we’re ready to help you and your team

The International Students Library Guide provides resources and information that are particularly useful for an international student to navigate the physical and online environment at the University Libraries.
